The online backup service captures and ingests less data so there is far less backup data to manage The local disk based backup system de-duplicates and compresses all the backup data, before encrypting it and automatically transmitting all delta-block incremental changes offsite to the secure, online backup vaults. Depending on the application and type of data in use the reduction ratio between protected and stored data values can range from 1.5:1 to 18:1. In an environment of mainly Microsoft Office including Microsoft Exchange and SQL applications the typical reduction ratio would be expected to fall between 2:1 to 3:1. OnDemand Recovery offer a free of charge statistical analysis to determine this reduction ratio, define the daily incremental change and daily backup window for the secure transmission of the incremental changes offsite.

Every daily incremental backup set is de-duplicated and compressed onsite, and then encrypted using the AES256 algorithm before transmission, it is important to note that only the customer or the customer’s nominated trusted third party would hold the encryption keys. The data at rest in both the backup system onsite at the customer site and within the backup vaults remains encrypted at all times.
